How rarely is our mind truly resting in the here and now? Different images – memories, hopes, associations – often permeate, overlay the moment. I am visualizing this simultaneity by physically altering photographic prints. Partially removing by hand the light-sensitive layer, I allow a second motif, completely in white, to emerge within the picture. The haptic element of scraping and carving illustrates the insistence, “im-pressive-ness” of imagination and emotional memory: Subtraction of material generates the addition of another reality.
